The team played on a field next to Woodend Farm in Upper Welland, nicknamed ‘The Dockey’ because of the number of dock plants that grew there. As many as 300 spectators would gather to watch the matches, paying an entry fee of 6d. The team had been revived by George Bullock in 1938 after a gap of some ten years. Ethel George, Sammy George’s mother, provided refreshments for the spectators at half time and oranges for the players.
